Is it safe in the UK?
There's not really any danger in the UK. Your best bet to stay safe though is to avoid council estates, but other than that there's not much else that can be of danger.
Yes and the crime rate here in UK is on the decline - at least, that's what the latest crime stats seem to suggest.
On the whole you'll be safe anywhere here in UK.
There are thousands of American expats living and working here in London UK and believe me they have no plans to return to USA, some even are contemplating the prospect of becoming British citizens.
No, I am not making it up.

The UK is generally safe to visit as a tourist if you use basic common sense..
Theft is a problem in tourist areas (pick pockets and bag thieves). Don't give money to beggars as they are often only trying to find out where you keep your money. If you want to give money to street entertainers then have some coins in your pocket so you do not have to pull out your wallet.
Avoid dark/deserted places in big cities as robberies (including armed robberies) do happen. For example, the rate of robbery in London is almost twice that of the robbery rate in New York City.
Avoid confrontations in bars/clubs/pubs and simply leave (after paying) if it appears someone is attempting to create a confrontation. Getting into very violent pub fights is effectively a sport among a certain level of the population.
Avoid islamic neighborhoods unless you have specific business there. The staff at your hotel can advise which Underground stops to avoid.

Check with your health insurance to find out if it covers you in the EU and pays for medical evacuation to home (should that be necessary). If yes then take proof of coverage with you. If no or not sure then get trip medical insurance, which is cheap and sold by airlines & travel agents. Please do not skimp on this as an otherwise-silly accident could turn into a crisis if you don't have medical insurance. This is a link from the US government, but the info is good for anyone traveling outside their home country:

Its a lot safer here in the UK,than most parts of the USA.
You should be okay! Lived here all my life and never had an issue with safety. Just avoid dark alleys etc at night, and I agree with avoiding Islamic neighbourhoods or dodgy inner city areas. Those places are just trouble and sadly stuffed full of foreigners who seem to have a problem with anyone who isn't Muslim lol
Its a lot safer here in the UK,than most parts of the USA.
There are four times as many murders in USA (population-adjusted) as there are in UK. So you are much safer in UK than in USA.
It's a very safe country. That's why violence makes big news. The tourist areas are especially safe.
