I'm originally from Ukraine, so I've already been to Russia twice, but i was only a few years old so that doesn't help at all. x)

A: some are, so are you. Your question implies that all Russians are some kind of midgets. Ethnic Rus'/Ukie/Belarusians make up ~85% of the whole population and their average hight is almost the same as that of Central and Northern Europeans. Many, not all, women are petite here yes, so are Swedish and German girls/women.
As for those playing such sports like basketball and volleyball they're usually tall everywhere, so you wouldn't feel any difference anyway.
The average Russian woman is almost 5 ft. 8 inches so I wouldn't worry about it. And they don't discriminate against people because of their height.
I have heard and read that there is lots of open racism in Russia. Open means even police and government authorities don't help and in fact they encourage it subtly. I assume you are white so you must not face many problems but if you happen to be black then may God save you. Don't leave your hotel and always be in company of your country's officlas and team members.
The fact that you are tall shouldn't be worrying you as much as the fact that you are originally from Ukraine... considering the recent events
Average height for guys here is 170-180cm. You'll find plenty above 180cm though.
For girls 160-170. And again you can find taller girls.
