Am i doing to much? Backpacking Europe.?

Hi my name is edgar, im a 20 year old college student planing on backpacking Europe this summer( may 17- June 06) i will be in Europe for 3 weeks and have no idea what im doing.

Barcelona Spain-3 days

Rome Italy - 3 days

Casablanca Morocco- 2 days ( i realize Africa is not Europe)

Rome Italy-3 days

Amsterdam Netherlands- 2 days

London England- 3 days

Paris France- 3 days

travel- 3 days

I will be couch surfing 95% of the time ( not sure how to do that yet) and if need be stay in a hotel

after months of research i came to the conclusion that traveling by train for the first half of my trip would be very expensive and time consuming because the locations are very far apart so the first half will consist of flights and the second half mostly trains. I have never been to Europe and have no idea what im getting my self into. I will also be traveling alone. I have already spent 1200 on my flight there from San Francisco and am budgeting the following....

450- food

700- flights and trains

150- travel within each city ( 150 for all 7 cities)

200- tourism

Willeke has given you excellent advice. I'd just like to add a couple of things. You are travelling in two months time but have done nothing yet about accommodation. Even couchsurfing needs to be organised in advance and, in my opinion, is not the best option for new travellers. You need to have a look at hostels, though this will mean you require extea money. http://www.hostelworld.com

All but one of the countries you plan to visit is in the Schengen Zone. A criteria of entering Schengen is that you have access to enough money to support yourself in reasonable comfort. At the moment you don't, even your food budget is too small, and Immigration officials at your point of entry may well ask for evidence of your finances.

You have less than $10 for sightseeing - that is not enough to visit even one tourist sight per day. What do you plan to do with your time? You can't even sit in a cafe people watching because you don't have the money for a coffee or drink!

Travel insurance is essential to cover any medical emergencies.

I'm not sure what research you've done, but I really suggest you get a copy of Lonely Planet's "Europe on a Shoestring" which is aimed at backpackers and is full of useful information and tips. Your local library should have a copy.

If you are couch surfing you will, on average, need more time per city, you are short on days for most and if not having extra days for travel, you are short to too short on all.

Best to do a week per country and certainly no more countries than one over the number of weeks you have.

You need two days to get over jet lag and get used to the country/city you arrived. Then you need two or more days to see that city.

Travel between cities in different countries mostly take a full day of travel, depending on the method of travel it might even take more than 36 hours. Flights will take at least half a day and will often take most of a whole day, specially when the flights are early in the afternoon.

You're forgetting the time it takes to travel between cities. I'd leave out Morocco this trip. And if it was me and I had only 3 weeks, I'd just go to three different cities and spend more time there.

Mate, that sounds so good. I would love to have the chance to do that, you definitely aren't doing too much, enjoy yourself
