i have been here personally every year since 1991, USSR. it is always safe for me. i don't wave dollars about, i don't speak English at 4 volumes over street noise, i am out late in almost every city i visit. from Moscow to Barnaul, i have seen many night streets. holidays, working days, crowds, sparse back streets. cheap eateries and cheaper hotels. expensive districts and residential areas. Russians mind their own business much more than Americans. it is very safe in Russia. schoolchildren 8, 9 years old walk and ride city buses independently about their cities. children are seen at any hour (to 9pm, some 10 pm) on any day.

Are Russians safe in America, that is more the question.

Not the ones who like cursing but are afraid to fight.

More so, than Afghanistan !
