To avoid being mistaken for one of the 'top manta' beggars, you should always dress well.
Smart casual. A light jacket is a good idea to look 'local'.
Spaniards, like many South Africans, are not politically correct. They will refer to you as the '***** / negrito' and even your good friends make sun tan jokes. It's just being friendly.
If I can put up with being called 'Blondie' in Spain or 'Mzungu' as I once did in a place I once lived, so can you.
OK. End of lecture. I am sure that you will have a great time over here. I do! You will find people very interested in your home country too - in the nice way.
Good Luck!
I say, give it a try.
Be open and friendly and you will probably find that people will accept you.
You'll never know unless you try.
(Honestly, I think they will be fine, assuming you are friendly, and try to speak their language [English isn't going to do you that much in Spain...they speak Spanish there, and you want to try to pick up some catalán while you're there, too.])
You will be fine. Where ever you go in this world you will find ignorant people, who will pick on you for whatever reason, but also friendly and welcoming people.
I didn't bother to finish reading this.So you are from Africa? Why didn't you say wich country? South Africans are pretty much always happy to wave their flag since we are the richest and best in Africa hands down.
EDIT:HAHAHAHA :D
Where else in Africa would people have access to the internet xD
It sounds like you have a problem with racial acceptance. Unlike America, in Spain, they will KICK YOU IN THE MOUTH no matter your color.
I want to study abroad in Spain. Barcelona to be exact. I will hopefully be accepted in IAAC (for architecture)
I'm african (as in from africa), my skin is just slightly darker than caramel, almost like medium toasted bread! Lol. It is getting lighter by day (im not lightning it. i was born light skin and i as i take care of it, my natural colour is coming back)
I have very good education and my english is superb! I'm beginning to learn how to speak spanish! So excited! I'm 5 feet tall and people like to say i look and maybe sound american.
I'll be there for maybe max of 4 years and want to know if people will be willing to interact with me. Will i be able to make friends? Will there be potential dating? Will i be allowed to flourish? And hopefully there will be no bad racism (im proud of my ethnicity and am confident in me :)).
Please let me know what u think?:)
Oh and i put no weaves in my hair, my hair is completely natural like i can wear it in an afro one day and straighten it
