Can I move to London?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I want to move to London, I'm 19 and I wanna live there. I work as a waiter and I don't really go to school anymore. I'm American and I'm wondering if I can move there and if so what's the process? Thanks loves
That's impossible. If you are not an EU citizen you won't get any work as a waiter. EU citizens can work in the UK or any other EU country without a visa. There are no work visas for jobs like that. You need a skill on the Shortage Occupation List to get a work visa, mainly scientific, engineering and medical fields along with some classical musicians, executive chefs and other specialty fields

The only possible way an American could work as a waiter would be to apply to and be accepted into a UK university as a full time student in a degree programme. Then you are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during school term

No, you cannot just move to london, it is very expensive to live in london, you have to have lots of money to come here, you need a visa, and it will only be a 6 month tourist visa.you are not allowed to work, we have enough unemployed here already.See the british embassy where you live for all the details.

As a non EEA national, the only way you can work in the UK is on a Tier 2 visa. This requires you to have a UK employer who is registered and licensed by the Home Office to employ non EEA nationals.

Only certain occupations qualify for a work visa and all require at least a degree level qualification. See tables 1 and 2 for the only jobs that qualify.

Your prospective employer must carry out a resident market test to prove that not one single, suitably qualified resident worker is available to fill the post unless the job pays over £153,500 or it's on the shortage occupation list.

The resident market test involves four weeks of extensive advertising across the jobcentre network and in trade and national press so it's a lengthy and expensive process. Most employers will not go to the time and expense unless they particularly want a specific candidate or they are having trouble recruiting from the resident market.

The shortage occupation list is a list of occupations which suffer from an agreed shortage of skilled personnel in the UK to satisfy demand. Most of these occupations are very highly specialised jobs in the arts, technology, engineering science and medicine.

Only if the employer can satisfy UKVI that there are no resident workers available can he provide you with a certificate of sponsorship which is a unique reference number that you use to apply for your visa.

To move to London or anywhere in UK you will need a visa. To gain one, you can successfully apply for a job on the Shortage Ocupation list. I'm afraid "waiter" is not on the list.

US citizens need to have excellent education, scarce skills and a job to come to with a multinational company based in the US to have any chance of getting a visa. Do some basic research on UK visas

You can't. In no way do you qualify for a visa that enables you to live and work in London.

US citizens can visit the UK as a tourist without a visa. However, to work you need a work visa. To get a work visa you need advanced educational and professional qualifications. If you don't have the qualifications then the only realistic way to stay in the UK long term is to attend university on a student visa.

Your best bet is to get a degree level qualification on a shortage subject or to marry a UK citizen.

No.You have no chance of getting a visa.

No you can't
