It is because the country is so fragmented - especially with their various languages and politics - that they do so little business with the rest of Europe
Catalonia is a net contributor to the central treasury, so in principle it would be better off as an independent country. The problem is that the government of Spain would veto the admission of an independent Catalonia to the European Union.
No.
Why? Hype. Catalonia is a lot less Spanish and more French than say Cádiz Province.
No. They cannot even control the thieving and prostitution in Las Ramblas and the Raval, so I doubt that they could run a country.
Catalu?a is PART of Spain.
WHAT would be better than independence from Spain?
Catalu?a, like all regions of Spain, has its own flavor.
When I visited Spain, I much preferred Barcelona and Bilbao (I know it's Basque but whatever) to Madrid. That being said, I really didn't notice a huge culture shift between Barcelona and Madrid. Really, it wouldn't matter one way or the other if Catalonia was independent, the difference would be that two countries would need a bailout instead of just one.
I am from Barcelona. I am a Catalan citizen and also my nationality is Spanish, even if I do not feel Spanish and I would like Catalonia to be independent from Spain for a lot of reasons of history, identity, language and domestic politics.
But I don't think Catalonia is better than Spain or the other way round. I have nothing against Spain, I just don't feel part of it.
I would like to know why many people believe that Catalonia is better, I've been in both places, and I like more people from catalonia.
You think it would be better than catalonia's independence from Spain?
Thank you :)
