I visited Turkey a few years ago, witnessed the daily street life, and deduced that the people there have a freedom which must be the envy of say Syria, or Yemen, or Sudan and Egypt. It is also due to this secularism and liberalism, that foreign investment has poured into the country, creating jobs and opportunities for the country's 75 million people.
Erdogan is the cause of this ebbing away, but my guess is that the Turkish electorate will only stay with him as long as the growth lasts. Once it slows, then he will be replaced; and as is usual in electoralism, it will be by a government which is the antithesis of the one before.
In my opinion, no - sadly. The economy is growing and on the surface things seem to have improved a great deal, but there is an argument that this is unsustainable and likely to hurt the country in the long run. The Erdogan regime has alienated most of the country's old allies and Turkey looks to be heading towards a pariah status not too dissimilar from that of Russia. The polarisation between the secular and more religiously-minded parts of the population grows worse each year, as the government gets more bullish with their islamisation agenda. And no progress has been made - quite the opposite! - regarding press freedom, reform of the judicial system, transparency of government, social and economic cohesion, etc.
Not the goverment but our people are changing in a good way.I mean we used to just do nothing against Erdogan but since the gezi park? events, our people seem to be waken up and able to speak our minds towards the government. We know what's the best for us but sadly the government doesn't and tries to make us backward and brainwashed but a really big number in our population doesn't sit silently and they refuse to be brainwashed even though sadly there are still some people who are.I wish Ataturk came back magically,he would teach some things and educate our government.
Turkey has a lot going for it. It is in most ways a rich country, with friendly people. One of my favourite countries in the world.
Sadly it can be very backward. I mean no offence but it is true. The seculars are often nationalist with a religious fervour and the religious are very conservative.
I'd say the reason for this is lack of education, I've worked in the education system here and the curriculum is so bad that kids don't like fun lessons. They assume they aren't learning. Everything in Turkish school is learned by rote.
I am very critical of the Turkish state but not of the Turkish country. It came forward under Ataturk (not that he was perfect in any way, it's important to see past the propaganda) but now, under Erdogan, is certainly getting weirder.
Yes It does, and I am saying this as a pro-AKP person. In my neighbourhood there are 2 gymnasium complex in 3 min walking distance and as a sport-health policy they are very cheap, done by AKP, our schools were renewed or completely destroyed to rebuild and now they look like private colleges, in every class there are projectors and smart boards, some kids were given tablets, my niece had an accident and she got paralysed, in the old days the government would do nothing, but now she uses the health servise plus the government pays her family to take care of her and this is applied to hundreds of people who have sick family members who cant work, AKP did underground tunnel tram way between the two sides of the city, I used to study on the Anatolian side and I used to spend 4,5-5 hours on roads a day, now it takes only 1 - 1,5 hour to go and come back there, these are just the simple stuff I notice in my daily life but AKP is doing lot of things for the good and our people are cheated by the sionist media. I worked in the airport and israel used to send their agents with guns for the security of El-Al flights but AKP ended it, israel was the only country who had the right to keep guns and every illegal pass in our airport now it is over. Erdo?an is the best man and I think the stuff he does, the fight he gives is for the good of every human on our planet, he simply saved Somalia, I can talk hours but now I stop
Turkey is changing in a bad way, inhope that they can restore their glory like they had under Ataturk. Ofcourse most Turkish people support erdogan-sadly.
No. Because of America and Zionist want to be more islamic Turkey.
Anyone who thinks that needs at least 1000 mg of Chlorpromazine daily and weekly electroshocks until he comes to is senses.
Imo the country is run by terror supporting, Islamic extremists so no it's not a good thing at all.
Sadly, no :(
