Catalonia: a nation more than 1000 years old, with an own language, Catalan, which comes directly from Latin and and an own identity and culture.
Officially an autonomous region within Spain, capital Barcelona, even if there is a small part of Catalonia in France since 1659. Nowadays most people in Catalonia are in favour of its secession from Spain so that we become an independent country within the UE, but this is just a subject too complicated to explain herein, maybe you should make another question and ask for the reasons of the independence movement in Catalonia.
When I see the word Catalonia I think of Barcelona and people speaking with their Spanish accent that is different from many other Spanish speakers around the world. Their words pronounce the "th" instead of a "c". For example, gracias may sound like grathias, or emocionado may sound like emothionado.
The main city in Catalonia is Barcelona.
It is cold and sunny today.
Generally: Catalonia is not a country but the Catalans are a nation.
