Once you have arrived in Spain, your employer should give you all the information you require to join the Spanish health service. The Spanish health service is, in my part of the country, much better than the UK's - probably because it is much newer. The problem is that they expect you to speak Spanish.
Spanish NHS health care costs about the same as in the EU; some employers give health insurance.
It is important that when you go to Spain that your health card has plenty of time to run.

There are jobs in Spain for the well qualified and experienced - as there are everywhere.
Good Luck.
By the way, 'Dart' has got it wrong. As a Brit, you need not contact insurance providers unless you wish additional private health insurance - anyway they hate 'prior conditions'. The State / EU National Health Service system will look after you if you follow the rules. Another good reason for Britain staying in the EU!
P.S. Just to agree with 'hilverchas' (with the exception of emergency care only - read my links). Also, if I were you I would take as much of your medication as you can from the UK to tide you over until you can make other arrangements. Your medication is expensive and, as in the UK, (where I was actually asked to pay to see a doctor!) not everyone knows the rules.
First of all how old are you, will you be working here.........................?
You will not be accepted into the national health system here if you are NOT working!
You must pay a private health insurance......
If you are a pensioner you will be accepted, you must prove you are getting a pension from the UK, register at a central office, then you will receive a medical card rather like a credit card which entitles you to all what a spaniard gets, , when you do move here and if you are a pensioner you will have papers come from the International DHSS office in Newcastle to take to the office at which you must register. I was covered totally as I am married to a spaniard anyway, BUT on becoming a pensioner, I received the papers from Newcastle, which I had to fill in and take to an office in Fuengirola, and within a week I had received a new medical card totally different from the one I had previously, but this allows me to get bus passes etc., like any spaniard, many of the things I can have I am not going to bother with because up to now I am fit and healthy, but you never know one day I might need that bus pass when I can no longer drive!
The EU health card is ONLY VALID FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENTS..................many folks have come to Spain with the idea they are covered, but its for a short period only and for urgent aid, it is not to be used as cover for health care, however you will get treated should you take ill, doctors/clinics/hospitals must treat you under the EU regulations, but the EU health card does come with terms, as another writer mentions. At this moment in time, you must pay a very small amount when you have got your prescriptions....as an example.....................my mum is 89, has had a colostomy, she has a standing order with the farmacia I use here, just take her card in, she gets her months supply of bags. etc., which cost approx 90 euros, she pays roughly 7 euros for them, until a few months ago it was totally free, but in this current climate the government has put a percentage payment on drugs, must admit it HAS helped clear the waiting rooms here, those folks who DON'T really need drugs now don't go, those we call Monday morning Sallys/Charlies, who got stuff even though they didn't truly need it!
Yes, of course!
What you CAN'T get in Spain is a JOB!
No...health care isn't free...it's not in the UK, either.
How much? Depends on far too many variables for a bunch of travel suggesters to be able to help you with. You're going to need to deal directly with insurance providers.
There is a lot of info about health care in Spain on the internet. See below.
In a few years i'm planning on moving to live in Spain, i currently live in UK my medication costs around 30k-40k per year in uk health care is free so it isn't bad but when i move to Spain i really can't afford to pay for that.. and i need my medication i wont be able to walk without it
