Basically a villa owner pays them a commision of around 30% to advertise their property, and then they service the client and the villa on behalf of the owner.
If you have any doubts ask them to send you a sample contract - invoice that they would send a client and search for an NIE or CIF number which would tell you if they are working legally or not
Hey Ross,
How's it going? Hmmm, it's really hard to tell nowadays if a certain business is legitimate or not.
What I usually do when I'm unsure of a website's legitimacy is I check its identity, reputation, and relationships through www.verify1st.com. Though as of now, they don't have any details about this website yet. Perhaps this will be indexed in their database on their next release.
Still, I did a little research and here are some more information that can help you out in your decision-making:
1) Details of Domain based from http://www.whois.com/whois/rentahomespai...
Updated Date: 08-May-2012
Creation Date: 30-May-2008
Expiration Date: 30-May-2013
Since you mentioned that you'll be staying in Spain over summer for a month, just take note that this will expire on May 2013 so it's quite risky if you'll close a deal with them if it's already near the expiry date.
2) With regards to global popularity ranking by Alexa, it is very low - http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/rentahomes... - and there are only 7 sites linking in to their website, which means that not much people are transacting with the site.
3) In terms of web safety, it hasn't been blacklisted yet - http://rbls.org/rentahomespain.com. But mind you, even if it's been in existence for more than 4 years already, it doesn't mean that it will not get into trouble anymore, right?
4) On the other hand, McAfee did not find any significant problems with the site (http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/rentaho... while Norton hasn't tested the site yet (http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?ur...
5) Upon looking at the site, there's a Contact Us page where you'll see contact numbers, postal address, and e-mail addresses. Having these contact details are good factors so that you can call and talk to anyone if you have any queries.
6) However, under the "Testimonials" page, it's just a bit odd that being in the business for more than 4 years already, there seems to be no client reviews. (Hmmm... I wonder why?)
Bottom line, all these don't necessarily make them scammers, but you always have to be prepared on the level of risk that you are willing to take. I suggest that you call the contact numbers indicated in their website. Be extra vigilant before you proceed with any transaction with them. You know, it's always better to talk to someone before closing off a deal with anyone.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
It so does not look legit! You should call them up.
Try fotocasa.es instead.
