English, never British.
Both English and British! Also, Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh are also British.
English and British. I've lived happily in Wales for some 25 years.
English first. British second. I object to God Save The Queen being played at sporting events involving England. God Save The Queen is the anthem of the United Kingdom, not of England.

Can I just point out, as a Welsh person, we call ourselves Welsh & British because that is what we are, like all other BRITISH..Lived in Scotland many years too and they are NOT all rampant nationalists..WE know the difference between being British and Welsh etc....
I tend to use both terms.
I suppose British is the term I use more often, but I have said English from time to time as well.
Based on past form, i think I tend to use British for the non-British, and English for the non-British.
