edit: So clarifying that it's a Flemish city (which most people don't even know) and that it makes sense (and might be more respectful, although I get that it's always been hard for many of you to appreciate or even acknowledge anything Flemish) to pronounce it as such is childish language politics now... Ugh. Imagine if the reverse happened, we'd never hear the end of it. Stop being so one-sided and just post the facts, Skipper. (from what I've read you don't even live in Belgium any more)
All I'm saying is that it's a Flemish city and in Flanders it's spelled Ieper, pronounced as Eeper. No need for all this drama. Facts are facts.
eepre - note that the 's' is never pronounced.
Ypres is the French spelling of the name and was widely used by British troops in WWI, and has become the common English spelling of the town's name.
Ieper is the official name of the town, and is pronounced iper. As the town is in the Flemish Dutch speaking part of Belgium, this is the name that should be used.
For our Anglo-Saxon friends, Ypres is pronounced "ee-preh" -
The "s" is silent -

To please the Flemings, use the spelling "Ieper" - pronounce it "ee-per" -
