Kaye is wrong about the canary islands being hotter in September.Southern Spain has average daily temperatures of 28 deg and the Canaries have 22.
Costa Blanca is a great place for a girly holiday,the sea is still warm,there are loads of people still around but rental properties will be a lot cheaper.

I think this really depends on what you are looking for.
For example, Magaluf would be the place for a crazy party weekend. Benidorm (Costa Blanca) for its beaches, theme & water parks and night life, Marbella for a nice touch of glass, Jerez De La Frontera, Valencia or Seville for culture, I could go on all night...
Spain has so much to offer. But finding the location for you is very important.

Anywhere at the Costa del Sol, personally I prefer Fuengirola.
It has to be the Costa del Sol between Fuengirola and Marbella.
The Spanish islands called the Canary Islands will be the hottest and are lovely.
