Is it true? Any experiences?
Sure there are sum racist in the Netherlands. In a country with more then a million Muslims, up to 3.5 million foreigners, in 2014 165.000 people from abroad migrated to NL, last year 25.000 foreigners applied for a passport and every year there are more the 25.000 refugees ask for asylum. If it was so bad here and it was a very racist country, I think no foreigner wanted to live here.
We don't have 3.5 million foreigners. We have a little over 3 million "allochtonen", which means people who were born abroad or have at least one parent that was born abroad. We also have some rightwing demagogues that blame all the country's problems that are caused by capitalism on "the foreigners" or even "the muslims".
A lot of dutch, especially in the big cities in the west, will talk english to any foreigner, whether (s)he understands it or not.
From what I've heard, you might get refused entry to a discotheque, but you won't be bullied out of your house or beaten for being "third world"
Of course it's true. Every country has racists, unfortunately. But the Netherlands is rather more accepting of foreigners than most.
There are racists in any country but you will find fewer of them in the Netherlands than in most countries.
There are also racists in your own culture... And you're getting a PhD?
Many Dutch citizens are from the old colonies and many others from other parts too...The Dutch are a tolerant people....
Dutch people are rascist, but I experienced even some foreigners being more rascist.
