How easy is it to live in Spain?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
It has been easy for me, I relocated to Spain from Sweden in 2001. But you need more language skills than just English to do well, you need at least basic Spanish.

Its a fact that at here is a lot of people in the dole, but most of them lack necessary skills or are young. The companies here often prefer a little bit older staff with experience, that's a fact.

If you think you have whats needed, try the link below - otherwise stay were you are.

There is not much work in Spain. In fact it has the highest unemployment in Europe. (50% for your age group)

There is work for personal trainers in "Wellness Centers" (sic) in good hotels and holiday complexes.

Check the adds in the appropriate trade 'comics' and write to the big hotel groups in Europe.

You are a bit late though, the season has started - but the ARE jobs. Have you thought of Greece or Cyprus? - do you speak the (any) language?

Good Luck!

Right now, Spain is in economic crisis. The overall unemployment rate is 27% and 57% for people under 25. People are migrating from Spain to find work.

spain in trouble

I am a 23 year old male born and raised in South Africa (Durban) but of EU nationality (Cypriot).

The past 10 months i have been in the UK and had to leave due to the structure and "laws" that make it terribly difficult for foreigners to easily open a bank account and begin work. The laws they set up are very good however, they are very vague and hard to find someone higher up to clear any questions or find solutions. If they don't want to give you an answer, they just won't.

In any case. The weather there drove me insane since i grew up in the beach town of Durban where the weather is amazing! The pace and the slyness/coldness of the British people really got to me and i want to relocate to Spain. I'd like to know first of the ease of opening a bank account, the income vs expenses and cost of housing. How is the law there and basically, is it an "easy" place to live and thrive? I don't want to be moving all around and would like to settle for at least 5 years in one country but i'd like a better standard of living than South Africa and know that my health (if anything arises) can be taken care of efficiently, plumbers/electricians/maintenance efficient?

I'm a qualified Personal Trainer., but am also a musician, photographer and chef. How are those areas of work?

I'd prefer an answer from someone who's relocated to Spain from either the UK or South Africa but also someone who's relocated there from any other country and has been there for at least 5 years is welcome to answer as well.

Thanks so much for your time and i'm looking forward to your response.
