Because Ottoman Empire left a dead-country after WW1. It also split the Anatolia into pieces, Armenians worked with Russians, Greeks attacked from West, Italia from South-West, France from South-East. British tried to enter Istanbul from bosphorus, but couldn't. Then they captured Istanbul.
Then an uprising had seen. A young officer, who is now the face of the country, had given his comfort away, and lead the country. He defeated 8 different enemies, saved the country again.
