I visited Madrid and Seville, and lived in Granada for 4 months. They DO speak very fast in Madrid. I personally thought that was the most difficult Castellano to understand just because you have to have very good listening skills in Spanish to understand it. The accent in Seville and Granada was pretty much the same, and I'm sure Malaga is also the same since it too is in Andalucia. The Andaluz accent can be difficult to understand because of the little variations in it. However, its a bit slower than Madrid and in my opinion, much easier to understand once you get used to it. Since you'll be in the cities, it'll be better too. The Andaluz people who live in the country and little towns speak with a HEAVY Andaluz accent.
Some of the variations that I mentioned of an Andaluz accent are that:
-They cut out some sounds in the ends of words, like "pescado" becomes "pescao".
-The typical "ito" at the end of words like "bonito" becomes "bonico"
-and when used to mean little, such as "poquito" (instead of poco), becomes "poquillo"
-Some of them drop the "s" off the ends of words. I had a professor who would pronounce any word ending in "s" without it, like "nosotro", "vosotro", etc.
It sounds confusing, but it's really not and you get used to it pretty fast!
Are you from the United States? Most people in the USA that speak Spanish are NOT from Spain. Therefore if you end up with a Spanish accent, it will sound odd to people in the USA. They might not always understand you either because sometimes the conjugations are not the same when you compare Latin American Spanish to Spain's Spanish.
The easiest one is definitely in Madrid. My fried was studying Spanish there and she said they speak not that fast as the rest of Spanish people.
I think all Spanish speak really fast and not really clear
I have an opportunity to move to Spain for 6 months so I can improve my Spanish language.
I've decided on 4 cities, Madrid, Seville, Granada and Malaga. Which one of these areas is the easiest accent to listen to, the clearest? slowest? I've heard people in Madrid speak really fast, is that true or not? Or is there not much difference?
