Start by learning the difference between England and Great Britain. Then investigate the cultures of the FOUR quite individual countries that form the United Kingdom.
When you have done that you may investigate the "culture" of London. It seems that for many Americans there is only one city in the UK - London. But anybody who has bothered to spend a few hours in a Library and studied some decent geography books will soon see that London is the least typical representation of an English city. It is too big, too expensive and too cosmopolitan to be remotely like a really typical English city.
In fact, if you want to find out about the UK, Great Britian and England you should forget all about London. Read about places such as Leeds, Canterbury, or Bristol instead. Then study the capital cities of the other countries: Cardiff, Edinburough and Belfast.
If you cannot, or will not, us a local reference library you can find starter information at:

For culture you should study the programmes on the more serious of the BBC channels: either by listening to BBC Radio 4 or the BBC World Service. Both are available from the BBC internet site. Or you could read some of the recent literature published including books like "Notes from a Small Island" by Bill Bryson.
A quick and easy start would be for you to look at this internet site:
http://www.kwintessential.co.uk/resource...
But be aware that it is only a "starters' guide" and is a bit superficial.
You should also look at some of the many "American - English" translator sites that are available via Google. You will probably be surprised at how different the American language has become from its English roots.
But above all - DO NOT make the mistake of most Americans and think that London is representative of anywhere in England or the UK. IT IS NOT !!!!
I come form England so I know some things--
You could visit Big Ben , London eye, the London Bridge, Madame Tussaud and the Tower of London.
People say 'you alright' meaning hi, hello and hey rather than "you alright" meaning are you ok?.
Some famous people are queen Elizabeth Prince William, Sir Paul McCartney, Helen Mirren, George Orwell
Britain is full of culture and traditions which have been around for hundreds of years. British customs and traditions are famous all over the world. When people think of Britain they often think of people drinking tea, eating fish and chips and wearing bowler hats, but there is more to Britain than just those things. We have English and British traditions of sport, music, food and many royal occasions. There are also songs, sayings and superstitions.
Guy Fawkes is a foumous Britain man who Tryed to blow up the Houses of Parliament. And on every year we have bonfire night were everyone sets off fireworks and bonfires.
there just a few thing that you should know!
Hope I helped! ????????????????????????????????
