I was younger than that when I traveled alone for three weeks and I was certainly not the youngest out alone.
Tuck your passport into an inner pocket or even better in an under clothing pouch. And keep some money and (if you have one) your credit card with it. Have a purse with little money in your pocket. That way you will not have to worry about pick pocket which are the greatest risk for tourists.
In touristy cities in Europe you can get by with English, although a few words in the local language are always appreciated.

Yes, you should. Verona is a wonderful city with a lot to see and do. I lived about 40 minutes south of Verona for over 13 years and loved it there. You should take advantage of every opportunity to get out and see as much of Italy as you can while you're there

Of course you can. Italy is quite safe, far safer than anywhere in the US.
