The legal minimum age for entry into bars and clubs in Spain/Tenerife is 18. As you've guessed, this is however not strictly enforced in the holiday resort bars and unless you clearly look 12 you'll have no problems getting in most if not all places.
The chances of actually being asked for ID are very small. The doormen (if there are any) either let you in or they don't. Debating and arguing the point with them is not a good idea. Tenerife can be a bit lawless and very different than Britain in this respect, if you piss the doormen off they will leather you, no doubt about it. So just move on and try another bar because there will always be somewhere else.
If you look older that could help you to go in, anyway you can go inside clubs without problems with your 16 years old. The only thing is that you won't be served in the bars. They usually check that, and even you could look older, maybe they can ask your proof of age.

I am 16 (but I look older) & I'm heading to Tenerife in the summer.
I really want to go clubbing there,& I'm just wondering for the people who have been before... Is 16 the minumum age for clubbing in tenerife (or Spain?) and do they usually ID you there?
I'm thinking that maybe because as it is abroad people don't tend to care as much as where I'm from in the uk.
