So there's no movies that depict the US in a negative light?
These movies are fiction, made to entertain the audience and not to show a realistic image of the places where the films were shot. Are you from the US? If so, why are you not scared living there after movies like Saw, Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, The last house on the left etc.? Do they portray typical life situations in the US? Well, I don't think so.
As a general advice: If you travel abroad, use common sense and act reasonably, just as you would do when travelling across the US. Keep in mind that every place on earth has its share of bad guys, but that doesn't make all places dangerous. Overall, most of Europe is quite safe, but keep an eye on your belongings, since pickpocketing is on the rise due to the EU-wide open borders policy plus poverty immigration.
It can be dangerous anywhere on earth if you travel alone and are not street smart.
Even if you know the ropes stuff can happen.
My husband is a huge world traveler, he escaped communist Hungary in the early 70's, went to Italy then Sweden, France and then found himself alone in NYC. He said that was the worst place to find yourself alone, without language skills and broke.
He traveled in the mid 70's to S. Africa alone.
He did however get ripped off in his home country of Hungary while standing in a train station. He had a bag of duty free alcohol he bought for a gift for his dad and while digging in his pockets the bag was stolen from between his feet by a gang of wild kids.
My son is not st. smart, he was robbed in Sweden by 2 black guys in an alley at night. Dumb for him to take a short cut back to his hostel.
He later wanted to rent a room for a few months to save some money. Replied to a newspaper add from a fellow American guy. Paid up front for 3 months rent and the next day the guy left my son alone in the flat. Said his grandmother in Fl was ill and needed him.
The next night a group of Arab guys were banging and screaming at the door. They were putting their hands through the mail slot and trying to break in.
My son had no idea what was going on.
They were screaming for their money. seems the rental guy was ripping people off , taking their deposits for the flat ahead of leaving town. My son was left holding the bag.
He went into the police station but they just literally laughed at him. He told some Swedish friends he had met about the problem and they moved into the flat, they didn't care about the Arab guys. My son did not stay another night in the flat, paid for a hostel room. What a complete waste of energy and money.
Stupid American films. Europe is FAR SAFER than the US - here you are not allowed to carry guns, and you certainly can't buy them in supermarkets. There are not nearly as many murders over here.
In European countries and cities, you simply exercise commonsense. If using public transport and going into crowds of people, keep your hand on your valuables. Ladies keep their handbags tucked firmly under their arms. At night, don't go down dark streets, and certainly not alone. If you are out at a bar or a club, don't accept drinks from strangers and don't leave your drink unattended.
Ethan is teasing you. Man, I hate those kinds of movies that make people afraid of people and the world. "Hostel" is make-believe, dude. I've stayed in a thousand hostels in my travels throughout the world, including many in Europe, and the worst thing that happened was somebody stole my underwear one time. Ooooooh, scary. Seriously, stop watching horror movies if you're going to see them as a window into the real world.
Europe is no safer or more dangerous than any other place. Just be smart.
Why USA films show only Europe is capable of such sick things..
What you will find in Europe is better people. Who dont discriminate poor from rich or ugly from beautiful or BLACK from WHITE everyone is consider equal. They are not money minded stupid people like Americans.
Europe is safer and better than USA.
Yea dude, if you go solo man, You're gonna die. Usually there's 200-400 deaths per week, but thats an underestimate. I honestly wouldn't recommend...
Not likely to have problems - you just need to have basic safety sense.
