Istanbul is fine, I've been there twice and nothing bad happened.
Just like anywhere, if you go looking for trouble you'll surely find it, but if you behave sensibly and take some basic precautions (like not flashing large amounts of cash in public) you'll be fine. Istanbul is just as safe as any major city, and probably safer than most.
Every big city could be dangerous, you have to use the common-sense in order to do a travel in a safe way.

most of the city is absoutely safe u don't have to worry about it but ofcourse u need to be careful where u're going because some places a bit dangerous in here.
