Yeah, if you already have work, it's a great place to live!
Make friends with the other students...be open to whatever (within reason, of course), and you'll get right into the language and culture.
In Valencia? You'll find people are into the beach and boating, water sports, as well as the typical: coffee shops, shopping, movies, etc.
You might find that Spaniards spend less time in their own homes/visiting peoples' homes than out "in the street", enjoying the whole city.
No. Probably not that many people speaking English outside of school. It's Spain. They speak Spanish.
Are the schools good? I'm under the impression (from friends who live there full time) that the public schools, in general, aren't that good. If you go to a tuition-paid school, you have to pick and choose.
Spain is a very good place, for its people mainly. Right now the economy is getting very bad but I think it won't be such a bad problem; but there is a lot of unemployment, specially for young people (so, if you're gonna stay for a long period, just get ready).
Valencia is a nice place, it has a harbor and also beach. Is a city with a long history, full of pretty old monuments (about 1000 years old) and also modern architecture.
There's a lot of places where you can have fun, and once a year they have their popular party: Las Fallas (you'll know soon).
They talk two different languages: Catalan and Spanish so you've got a lot to learn!
Spain is one of the best places in the world, trust me. I have lived in several countries and Spain is European, open, very friendly plus the weather there is bright even in cold winter there is SUN and light and the food there is very rich. Spanish are very expressive in general, charming, generous at heart and sometimes very loud but it is their Mediterranean culture. Now, the economy is bad but you get excellent universal healthcare and awesome trains and transport. Young people like to party a lot. They have the tapas plus beer and wine culture and siesta habits which, unfortunately is not as common as it used to be except during summer time. They have mixture of many cultures and old buildings. Spain was the number one Empire in the XVI century and they discovered America. They are pretty laid back depending where you go although in Andalusia they can be pretty lazy and a bit behind the rest of Spain. Madrid rocks and Valencia where you are too. All the best.
Im answering this question because im twenty and ive been in the US since Iwas eleven. And iI was raised in Valencia. Let me tell you as you already know that Valencia is the best ever to live. But no one speaks English tho, they speak valenciano which is a.spanish dialect
