Is Turkey Still Safe for American Tourists?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
My friend and I are planning on going to Turkey in a week and want to go as far as Antalya, but with the ISIS developments on the Turkish-Syrian border and other issues, I'm wondering if it's still safe for American tourists, like us?

Turkey is on the whole a very safe country for tourists including Americans. Antalya is the no.3 city in the world by visitor numbers (after only London and Paris), so although it might seem on the map as being 'far' (per your 'as far as') it is in fact the centre of the tourism trade in that country and very mainstream indeed (in both good ways and bad..).

The bit of the Turkish-Syrian border that you're referring to is a good 500 miles from Antalya as the crow flies, and probably at least 15 hrs driving - not to mention that the troubles are on the Syrian side of the border, of course, not in Turkey. The British Foreign Office is saying that as long as you take sensible precautions it's still OK to travel to Mardin and Urfa, and they're only 20 miles from the Syrian border!

In other words, the ISIS aren't going invade Antalya any time soon.

Have a great holiday! :-)

Antalya is far away from the border with Syria.

It's a very safe place for tourists. The beaches of Antalya are full of Russian-European tourists.

As safe as America is for Turkish Tourists

Yes it's safe.

Well around 36 million people travel to Turkey each year and no one gets killed, so it must be pretty safe, right?

The Turkish police are a pretty mean bunch, throwing tourists in the

slammer for no reason at all. Stay away!

You'll be fine, don't worry.

Yes , but go easy on the cranberry sauce.

there are no troubles in turkey.

Do you have your VISA?

There have been violent attacks in Turkey, and the possibility of terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens and interests, from both transnational and indigenous groups, remains high.
