Despite its horrendous unemployment, the thieves preying freely on tourists, high prices etc., Spain (and Barcelona) is still one of the safest places in the world to live.
I have no intention of leaving ... yet.
Quite simply , if you see a demonstration ahead, turn around and go somewhere else. Exactly as you would at home. (Avoid the metro in areas where you find a demonstration.)
In Barcelona there is a pick pocket problem they also rob foreign cars by puncturing their tyres and robbing the occupants, which ruins a visit to such a beautiful city but as an ordinary person you won't notice the economical and political unrest or the money problems of Spain life goes on shops are open and so are offices
Yes, it is safe, at least when the film Batman was released here in Barcelona, nobody was shot.
Just don't get mixed if you see a demonstration, as Guiris says. Barcelona is now overcrowded with tourists and I doubt they notice anything.
The economical situation here is dredful and our politicians and bankers have proven to be corrupt, but life is normal as usual and there is no reason to be afraid.
Yes
I am sure it will all be settled by the time you get there.
I am planning on studying abroad in December. I will be in Barcelona. I've heard that there is lots of economical and political unrest in Europe right now but I was wondering if it is still safe for a student to be there. I will be there 3 and a half months. I will be staying in a facility managed by the study abroad company and most outings I have will be supervised by a tour guide. Overall, I am really just asking this to get feedback so that my family feels better about sending me off to a foreign country. Thanks for the help.
