Actually, at the moment smoking a normal cigarette seems a bigger crime (to the government) than smoking weed.
In coffeeshops, where you can buy it, you are allowed to smoke a pure 100% weed joint - but not one mixed with normal tobacco or a normal cigarette - go figure.
btw - Amsterdam is just a city. The rules there are the same as in the country, The Netherlands, sometimes referred to as Holland..***:D

No, but every resident of THE NETHERLANDS over 18 can buy it in "coffeeshops" all over THE NETHERLANDS, and outside the three southern provinces, so can foreigners over 18.
Smoking it at home, or in the park, or on the beach is not a problem.
Above two are misleading, Inside Coffee Shops in Amsterdam, yes you can smoke weed. Don't smoke it outside of the Coffee Shops though.
