So me and my partner are planning a trip around parts of Europe Late August Hopping to not come back to the UK until Mid December. We are driving and it will be a Work Away experience so Accommodation prices aren't and issue.& will be Backpacker lifestyle.
This is the Ideal Plan:
Dover - Calais - Normandy- Nantes - Bordeaux - Bilbao- Tarragona- Barcelona- Marseille- Toulon - Cannes & Nice - Genoa - Rome - Naples - Sorrento - Foggia - San Marino - Bologna - Venice - Verona - Geneva - Strasbourg - Calais - Dover.
I'm just looking for any advice from anyone who has done this or anything like this? Things like how much money we are likely to need for Tolls etc. Is crossing the borders an issue ( we are British ) Are we likely to get stuck in the Snow in Geneva !? Is there anything important that we just aren't thinking about ! or are we just being too ambitious ?
Any advice on any of this would be fantastic!
Thanks in Advance
Becky.
Are you sure you will find accommodation in all these towns. The route is fine although you will be driving most of the time.
Crossing European borders is not a problem apart from Switzerland where you need to purchase a motorway pass.
Google for toll prices. France is quite expensive. Don't forget parking charges in many of the cities.
If you are only going to Geneva city snow should not be a problem.
Some countries require you to carry and use snow chains in winter months.
Why not try a briefer visit first eg Dover - ..... Nantes then back to UK. If this works out you can try the longer trip.
I can't believe you are British and you know so little about the rest of Europe.
Your expedition takes you through France, Spain and Italy. Ever heard about free travel and open borders in the EU ? There are no border controls between those countries (and pretty much through all EU countries except of course the UK).
Stuck in snow in Geneva ??? Why ? What makes you think that there will be snow in Geneva ? Why not anywhere else ?
It's possible, but it'll be expensive. And you need to make sure your car is officially roadworthy in all of those countries - someone made a point about snow chains.
I think you'd be better off just leaving the car at home, to be honest. Trains are so much easier for getting around.
Hi Johnka
Not all of these Towns but this is a guide for us. I realise we may have to miss a few and some of these are just stopovers because of the long journeys. My thinking is its better to do it in one go to try and keep costs down and because we have a free 4 months on our hands, although we have considered shorter journeys this seems more of an adventure :)
Have you done anything like this before?
Would love to hear of your travels ;)
Do trains instead. Then you will not need to find parking in an unknown area, nor have toll fees. Unless you really, really like looking at petrol stations day in and day out.
from Calais I would head to paris ..just past the airport pick up the Bordeaux road ..stay on that road ...you will see signs for futurescope ..Disney for adults ...south of Limoges ...after Bordeaux I would head for Toulouse ...space centre ...airbus tour ..then on to carcasonnes ..following the canal du midi ...carcasonnes is fab ...lots to see and do...then on to perpignon ...beaches etc ...down to Barcelona ...ramble the rambla ...then up coast to nice ..monte carlo ..on to pisa ..leaning tower ..rome Tivoli gardens ..up to venice .....august is very busy..try to avoid ...by November its a lot colder ..so think carefully ...might be best if you reversed the trip and done south last
