I don't believe some of you sadcases actually mention the art galleries. I went to Madrid last Summer and they were Sh !te with a capital S- the only good thing was the canteen that sold Ben & Jerry's in Prado.
Most of that you can do in one day.
How'd you manage to miss the art museums!?
You MUST see El Prado, and you should try to get to either the Reina Sofía or the Thyssen.
You might want to see some of the castles in the outlying areas.
No Art Galleries or museums?
See. http://www.timeout.com/madrid/
There are quite a few guided tapa tours on YouTube. Keep your eyes open and you can find out where the bars are! Or go on a guided tapa tour.
Awww... I always want to go to Madrid. Good luck!
I'm going Madrid in less than a week and I was going to make a list of things to definitely see when I am over there sightseeing. Can someone give me some good recommendations please? Ideally from personal experience, as I've already checked the obvious places such as Wikitravel and Viator etc.
This is what I have so far, including a few day trips:
Avila
Toledo
Segovia
El Escorial
Royal Palace
Plaza Mayor
Temple of Debod
Almudena Cathedral
Alcala Gate
Plaza de Espana
Gran Via
Parque del Buen Retiro
Palacio de Cibeles
Puerta del Sol
