Look at a MAP of the UK maybe?..The BIG BLOB is mainland UK....Swindon..a rather BORING place, IS on it, in SW of England..NON Mainland is certain islands & Northern Ireland.....
Swindon is in England, so on the island of Britain, which is mainland... the UK consists of England/Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland is on the island of Ireland, so not mainland Britain like the other countries
