Its a lot safer than your big cities over there, you ll be fine. Glasgows people are friendly believe it or not, the type who will take you to your destination rather than just tell you if you ask them directions. Sure, there are the usual suspects but then its the same in any big city, not matter where its situation.

Don't go shouting into a phone when you are out walking in glasgow,you will get it stolen! just have a bit of sense, be aware of people around you, walk quickly so that you look like you know where you are going, and after dark walk with a friend or get a cab.
