Hi, I went to University in Aberdeen and it was brilliant. Within the first week you will have made dozens of friends especially if you are sociable and like a drink and clubbing. If you're a bit quieter you can join one of the many social clubs at the University and that will be a ready made group of friends. As for being black, there isn't much diversity in Northern Scotland but people are pretty easy going and the students will be from all over the world and won't care one bit what colour you are. Just be cool, be prepared for the British humour of sarcasm and mockery though, don't take offence, that's just the way they are. Just do it back to them and they'll be your friends for life. Have a great time. Do get in touch if you want more info.
Funny, there was someone here just the other day saying he was moving from Scotland to Texas. Maybe you can do a house-swap!
You're definitely in for a bit of a culture shock, starting with the weather! :) Fortunately, Scots are lovely people, so I'm sure you'll get along famously. Aberdeen is relatively cosmopolitan for such a small city, because being the centre of the UK's oil & gas industry it gets its fair share of foreigners, including a fair few from down your way.
PS: Just for the record, Aberdeen isn't actually in the Highlands.
in the UK no one cares about colour, if your religious your in for a big surprise, the vast majority of people here are atheist and people who are religious dont practice. Texas to scotland... its going to be much much much colder and rainer so there is that. also im from london and find it hard to understand Scottish accents i think that will be a problem since Americans dont understand weak east london accents let alone scottish
No problem. Scottish people are very friendly. UK is much less racist than USA. People will not be bothered by your colour. Most of us like Americans.
It's diverse.
You've already asked this question so why ask it again ?
God, don't move to the UK. Stay in the USA!
TROLL !! Go get a life !!
