Sorry to sound harsh but it isn't a good idea at the moment.Like everyone has said there is a lot of unemployment and the Spanish look after their own,if there are any jobs a local will always come first and whats left is usually given to the south Americans.
Even if you were really lucky and got a job you would be very unlikely to get a contract. You then have the problem with health cover, who would pay for your treatment should you become ill.
Also if you cant speak the language how would you be able to rent an apartment or even apply for a job.
I have been here 9 years and the only reason I am still here is because I had the cash to buy my own house and to support myself for 2 years.I also had enough experience to start my own business.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but there is no point telling you we all live it up and have a great time as it just isn't true. Many families have ,after dragging their children out of school moved over only to find there is no money to be had and gone back to their own countries after losing everything.
Sorry, but try to get some experience in a field that the Spanish really need ,you will find you have more chance of survival. And just out of interest why is your stepfather not trying to dissuade you,is he the reason you want to go.
Sorry to tell you but you are not going to be getting a job in Spain at 18 with no degree and no fluency in Spanish.
There is a huge unemployment going on in the country, families and people are suffering without jobs, youth unemployment is 57%, nationally it's 27%.
Spain is not the country for you right now.
Maybe you should try Australia? They have a one year working holiday visa, if you do fruit picking for just 3 months you can extend your visa to spend 2 years in Australia.
Canada also has a working holiday visa too.
I don't mean to sound negative but Spain is not a good place to live without a job, just like anywhere else.
From what I heard spain is a great place, really a part of Europe...France is right next door....better get Rosetta Stone software! You'll like it
F@#k it .... Why not just go? You can succeed or you can failed !!! but make sure you have some emergency money in the bank for the airplane.... besides you can work as an English Teacher!!! just saying....
Hi there,
So basically, I have been itching to move abroad for the past two years or so, but I am very young so have had a lot of waiting and researching to do.
I turn 18 this year and am desperate not to get 'stuck in a rut' as I have felt this way for a long time and want to get out there and experience some things!! I have been working full time for just under a year and have begun to search for a new job, but whilst doing so I have been thinking maybe I should look for something abroad instead? I currently live in England so Spain seems the most sensible option, as it is far away enough to have a fresh start and a bit of excitement, but not so far that I wouldn't be able to get home quickly should I need to.
I have full support of my father since he has known for a while that I am wanting to move abroad and do something a bit different. I would however be moving alone. So I guess my question is, where do I go from here? Is it as straight forward as I am thinking or am I being a bit na?ve to think its so easy?
Are the people friendly? Do they like English people? If anyone can relate to their own experiences, I would be very grateful!
Thanks so much xx
