Moving to spain or not?

It can′t be bad for you, your wife and your kids in Spain. Despite the crisis. If you go to the northwest of Spain. Galicia. And in Galicia, Lugo. This is very important for your success.

In Lugo, most people live in small villages and they are very helpful to each other. As they live a bit kind ¨ segregated ¨, they will value the presence of another culture. Mostly if it is from the UK. Think that many people from Lugo have grandparents who emigrated to the UK or Germany to work, previous to this crisis and between the 20' to 60′ decade of the last century. With the introduction of your language and new ideas, you will also see the proper business for you. Know that during crisis, if some businesses break up, some other businesses are born.

Apart from that, a house i the village is much more cheaper from a house at any city. You will take this as your starting point, but a very secure starting point leading to a successful experience.

for you - your best bet costa del sol - for a teacher you might drop in for a job easily, at the moment on local radio they are asking for english teachers, keep away from rural areas, if you want a job teaching keep to the tourist areas, more young folks need english these days for jobs, not sure about the banking rules these days, but doubt a spanish employer will pay into a bank in the UK for you - you will/should pay in to the system so you can get medical cover like anyone else, the first thing you will need anyway is an NIE number, you will need this to do anything legal, regards banking/work/docs/housing/etc., if you wish to read up a bit more search for SUR in English, on line, its a free local paper we have, also 2 more - Euro Weekly News and The Olive Press, its will give you news, ads just about for anything, local info on whats happening hope this helps you. good luck

You must get a job to come to before you move. (Remember to bring all your EGIC cards for the tranisiton period .)

If you live in Spain, you must have a Spanish bank account. Do not close your UK account.

Child care does not pay; not with the immigrants and 25% unemployment but ... .

Your budget seems reasonable if you go native.

Sorry can't help with schooling. Avoid Catalonia because state schooling is in Catalan.

Good luck!

The rent in Arenas is low because the village is somewhat isolated. You will need to travel to and from the coast for work.

Don't worry about schooling. Spanish schools are good, and your daughter will pick up the language really quickly. But, do you and your wife speak Spanish, because these days you will need to be fluent to get any sort of work.

Tefl teaching does not pay that kind of money. Your wife is not going to get any type of job if she does not speak fluent Spanish.

You'll need to open a bank account in Spain if you're moving there - much easier.

Hi all, Well its that age old question re moving from the UK to Spain.

I know I am going to showered with a load of dont do its and unemployment is high etc and I take all this seriously. However,

I am a male, 36 and have a wife 42, we have two children of 8 years and 19 months.

We do not own a property here in the UK due to the recession and our inability to fund our large mortgage at the time. We are through this now with some graft and now wish to enjoy a little life in the sun.

I am a qualified TEFL teacher and my wife is qualified in all kinds of things but the main ones being nvq3 in childcare and education and diploma 3 in health and social care with all sorts of relevant quals to boot!

I am looking at moving to the Arenas area due to the lower cost of rented property but my main concern is schooling. I see that there are state schools in close enough proximity but I wonder at their status. Any knowledge on this would be gratefully received. Naturally we will not even consider moving until we know of a realistic school and of course have employment offered, even if this means getting my wife TEFL qualified.

I think other than that I have all areas covered with the exception of banking! can i not keep my UK account ? will my Spanish employer pay into a UK account?

Also unless I am mistaken, with a property costing c400 euros per month plus utilities, a 3000 per month combined income should suffice right? wrong?

Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks for reading
