Any advice from anyone whose moved out of England or advice in general? And what are Greek people like? Only met a few in my short span of life; and can't really tarnish them all with the same brush, even though the Greeks I've met we're great people.
Thanks.
If you have to come here and ask what Greek people are like , then I'd suggest your research into your notion leaves a very great deal to be desired .
First of all , you cant work there , because there simply isn't any .
So you would need an independent income ; for accommodation , basic food , a couple of drinks a week , and basic necessities ( no clubbing ) a minimum of 500 euro per month .
The good news is you need far less stuff than you do in the UK so expenses for clothing and footwear are far less . Greek winters are short , but as my first teacher told us " Greece is NOT a tropical country ; In fact it gets Bloody Cold ! " ;
AND Greek houses are not built to cope with that so you DO need warm winter clothing AND ( expensive ) house-heating for six or eight weeks a year .
AND to power up hot water for when the sun doesn't shine so your Solar powered water is tepid .
Food is more expensive there ( about 10% more than the UK ; - because of the lack of a very competitive market for shopping , no huge supermarket chains , and Geographical conditions that make retail distribution a logistics nightmare .)
The good news is you dont need to eat to keep warm as you do in the UK and will find after the third week there that your appetite diminishes considerably and you dont want to eat so much .
And if you eat the sort of things the Greeks do rather than processed Western McCrap from boxes then you can live economically .
Do you speak any Modern Greek ? If not then that's another mountain to climb , and you'd best start in right away . There are some free lessons in very basic things on You-Tube , and more options on-line , but best would be coaching from a native speaker , with the aid of a book designed to teach foreigners like you . Try to find a Greek or Cypriot student here who'll give you a couple of hours a week in return for drinks .
Be warned it's a tricky language for English speakers .
I'd suggest you use some of your vacations and get down to Greece ASAP to see the place .
A good cheap jumping off point would be the Plakias Youth Hostel ( it has it's own website , search that ) on the south coast of Crete . Cheap to stay in , ( 60 Euro a week ) convivial + intelligent company to be with , beautiful area ( look at Plakias vids on You-Tube and pics+vids on Google-Earth ) . But get out and visit some of the surrounding countryside , dont spend all day on the beach or boozing in Joe's bar every night .
Last tip is the whole of Greece is rife with mosquitoes , and despite using repellent you will get frequently bitten . Despite using post-bite-salve the bites re-itch every 24 hours for days , and if you scratch those they'll scar . I dont care because I'm an ugly old man anyway , who loves the country , and can put up with that irritation , but some people cant .
Good Luck , hope you find your dream .
Wait till SYRIZA party comes (hopefully) to get the things better and fix up the situation now its really hard and we're all unemployment but like you said with a glass of greek wine and nice Greek company a sexy girl to dance for you tsifteteli and food and a generous smile the lige keeps rolling and the Greek spirit and heart helps a lot

You should be okay in Greece as a resident if you learn top speak Greek and wallow in Greek culture which is very easy to do because it is one of the few cultures which is entirely democratic and open to all. The Greeks believe they keep their culture by simply sharing it with anyone and everyone.
It starts like this - 1 You need to bone up on Greek Classical History, 2 Greek Art and once you've got some of that the rest is easy.
Here are a few Greek things to blow your mind a bid. First up, the Greeks have recently made Lord Byron a 'Hero of Greece' - it is an enormous honour for Byron and obviously his surviving descendants.

Now for something so Greek most of us are unaware of it - Western Civilization is founded entirely upon the Greeks and no one and nothing else - don't believe me? Then watch.

Try if you can to fall madly in Love with all things Greek - become enthusiastic - esp,. the music.
By the way, there is no age barrier in Greece - if you can dance and or sing, just get up and do it.

At this point I should advise you that the Greeks have a very strong relationship with Israel.
and don't be scared to let the tears roll down your cheeks - now and then.

Jobs in history & philosophy are sparse in the best of times. You realize that the Greeks are going thru desperate times right now, and 25% of the population is unemployed??
How would you live?
