Opinions on Barcelona?

Wow, so many great answers. Just add that you've picked one of the greatest cities in Europe, coming from the UK, prices will seem to you about the same. Some restaurants are pretty expensive, but they are so fantastic, they're worth every penny. Not many hotels near the stadium, but what's the difference, the underground is great, buses, etc., i mean, you can get to the stadium from anywhere in town. And there is SO much to see and do... You'll love it!!! Take the doubledecker buses that go around the city, you can see everything, get off and on along the route. there are several routes. Great and inexpensive way to see everything. oh yes, September is PERFECT weather-wise. Cheers!!!!!!

I don't think there are a lot of hotels near the stadium. Kind of a residential area, from what I could see from the tour bus (We just didn't have time to stop!)

go to gobcn.com and see what you can find...find the stadium on the map, and find hotels from there.

Or choose any lodging site.

Or search "Hotels near Camp Nou".

Temps? Find a climate site to tell you what to expect. Probably warmer than home. I'm guessing you are British?

Apart from the Football Stadium? Seriously!? There is SOOOOO much more! If you're into art...remember all the famous artists of the late 19th, early 20th centuries hung out in Barcelona! Picasso is the favorite home-town son...and Miró, but sooooo many of them lived and worked there. Did you know, there was an Olympics held there only 20 years ago!? Lots of things in conjunction with the Olympics...lots of street art put up for the affair, etc., Did you know that Columbus sailed from Barcelona at least once? It's a major port city. Lots of imports, and history tied to that. Several castles nearby to tour. LOTS of shopping! Historic quarter (Barrí Gotic) and the Modernisme (Art Nouveau) quarter Eixample, where you see lots of famous buildings by Gaudí, et al. It's very far flung. You want to take the tourist bus for that...FAR too much walking to do the whole thing! You MUST see the church of Sagrada Familia. Also, every city in Europe has a cathedral, you should see that, too. We printed a walking tour from online, and used that as our guide through the Barrí Gotic. Wander up and down the Ramblas. Shop in the Boquería. Stroll along the beach. (know that the food there isn't exactly great)

Do a little research, you'll find much more.

Food? You can eat reasonably. Seafood is exceptionally fresh! Snack at the Boqueria, or buy fresh foods to make into sandwiches or tapas at your room.

Tip: If you eat, sitting, on the Ramblas, you'll pay for the seating. Food isn't great, and it's kinda pricey. Worth doing once, just so you can watch the people go by.

It's nice and warm in early September, but be careful when you book for, because mid-September is when the city plays host to a local festival La Mercé.

You'll have to try something like www.hostelworld.com to find a hotel in the area you want.

??? I could go on about the Gothic Quarter and the Gaudi legacy and the seafront, and Olympic village and all the wonderful places, but I won't - buy a good travel guide book. I recommend the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides series, but there are many other good publications out there. Barcelona has some really lovely buildings and parks.

It can be expensive to eat out. Some restaurants are pricier than others. The guidebook I suggested has some good options.

Someone said watch out for pickpockets - absolutely right. And not just on the Ramblas, but petty theft can happen anywhere, I heard of a woman who put her camera on the table and turned away for a second and it was gone. Don't get into lifts/elevators with people you don't know, especially in public places. Most petty criminals won't hurt you, they just want your stuff - all you have to do is make it hard for them to get it.

Barcelona is one of the greatest cities on earth.

Go. September is good time, July and August are too hot really.

BTW - watch out for pickpockets on the Ramblas.

My boyfriend has always said he wants to go to Barcelona, one of the reasons being to see the football stadium. I've been thinking of taking him to Barcelona for a birthday surprise this year.

What is the tempreture in Barcelona in the beginning of September?

What hotels are nice but close to the football stadium (2-3 star?)

What else is there to do in Barcelona apart from the football stadium?

Is it an expensive city to eat out etc?

If anyone can answer my questions or give any advice/opinions anything would be appreciated :) thanks in advance!
