The city isn't as bad as it once was so don't feel bad about the move. Most people here really like the Irish!
I would suggest avoiding the east end of the city as it has the worst reputation (gangs, neds, usual idiots). The further north from the city (areas like Milngavie and Bearsden) tend to be a bit more expensive.
I'd suggest either the south or west of the city. The south (areas like Shawlands) has a large asian community but from personal experience it's never been a problem. I think the city is well integrated. Due to the commonwealth games a lot of work was done on transport links so if you have to be far from work it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
Hope you settle in somewhere nice and good luck with your job!
I'm assuming you're from the Republic? If so make sure to stay out of the Rangers areas it's full of sectarian bigoted huns
No one gave you a decent answer. Isobel needs to take a look at herself first before she comments wrongly about my city. if you are young and vibrant I would suggest you look in the west end. Partick, Jordanhill, Whiteinch, Dowanhill. Or in South Side - Shawlands? As in any city you just need to be alert and be sensible and safe. Glasgow is a great city to live in and good luck to you.
I would stay away from grungy, isolated back-alleys at night as well as other unpopulated areas. For that's a place where criminals could attack you (Yes even Murderers and Rapists, as well as thieves!)
Especially at night!!!
the whole of Glasgow is a DUMP full of RUDE and ignorant scots, run down tower blocks, high level of murders, junkies, drug dealers, robbers pollution and FILTH avoid this god forsaken place like the plaque
Dust cart routes
Everywhere
Inner east not great but better than was...WEST and SOUTH best......Close in WEST END is great....
