You can easy pay visits to: Cordoba, Granada or Seville with the AVE train (fast train) Or you can visit Marbella and Gibraltar by bus.
Tangier in Morocco is also easy to reach...
Barcelona is directly on the coast and there are soooo many things to do there.
Sevilla, although not right on the beach, is within 1 hour to the sea. It has probably one of the best "Spanish vibes" of the largest 4 cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Sevilla) if that is something you are wanting. However, depending when you go, it could be HOT!
Valencia is nice, but certainly not my favorite.
I have heard Santander is nice, although I've never been (had a friend go, though).
Valencia is a must-visit place and the best way to explore the place is to take the Tourist Bus. Make sure you approach the Tourism Information Centre find out where to buy the bus tickets & get discounts (euro 1 or 2 off) of the bus ride.
Beach in Barcelona is nice to visit too. For more information & tips about doing Spain free & easy, you may read my travel posts: http://www.goingplaces.sg/spain-free-and...
barcelona is great for everything it also has its own beach but the trains are very easy to use and you can get a direct one to the many beach reports like sitges in half an hour. i love gerona cities old town less than an hour on train from Barcelona well worth a visit for a laid back small city without the crowds
barcelona is ****, expensive and just like any other city
the best city is granada, towns- orgiva, malaga, alacante, benisa, almeria (Desert),
its all about the south of spain, better wether, cheep (e.g 1 euro a beer and every drink u get from the bar comes with a tapas)
the people in south spain are much nicer and the sights are buiteful
Barcelona is a fantastic city with plenty to do and great buildings. Its got a fab cathedral, 1992 olympic stadium and the old olympic village and great street artists
I want to go on holiday to Spain with my boyfriend next summer.... any recommendations of where to go? Have considered Valencia. I'd like a large town / city holiday with lots of sightseeing and perhaps not too far from a beach? Wouldn't want solely a 'beach' holiday though. Any suggestions appreciated :)
