I plan on studying abroad in Glasgow, Scotland next spring and i wanted to know if there was any distress towards American students in the area. If so why and what can i do to prevent any distress/dislike to myself from the community.

Scotland has no hatred towards Americans at all. You are completely safe and people will treat you like any other.

My father gave me some good advice when in any, repeat ANY strange town/city or country.

Initially: Keep your eyes and ears open - and your mouth shut.

Long term, you have nothing to fear or worry about.

As there will be all kinds of multicultural students at the Uni, why would anyone care about an American?

Throw them dollars.

Most people in Scotland (and the rest of UK) like Americans. You will feel welcome.

don't try to talk like them lol

If you are not local then no one cares. They save the hate for themselves.

Until you speak.......no body will know that you are not a Scot.
