I could understand doubts between Barcelona vs Madrid or Barcelona vs Seville, but not with Malaga.
Barcelona is your choice, it has lots of things to do, astonishing architecture and it's a very cosmopolitan city. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, not exactly Spain.
Regarding Malaga again, I'm pasting a paragraph from a very interesting website, Mythys and Misconceptions about Spain, which I encourage you to read
"Malaga is always on tourists' radars, mainly due to its popular airport. But that's the best thing about Malaga - that it's easy to get away from it. Yes, Malaga has flamenco and bullfighting, but so do other cities (such as Seville, Granada and Madrid. And yes, Malaga's summer festival is one of Spain's most spectacular. But if you're visiting Spain at any other time of year, Malaga should be well down your list of cities to visit."

Assuming that you mean the cities, it has to be Barcelona. Malaga is just a little commercial provincial capital of no special interest.
Malaga is like Glasgow in Scotland. People confuse the airports (both serve comparatively large hinterlands) with tourism in the cities. People for miles around use the airports and tourists use them as an entry point to their respective countries.
In Malaga, if the traffic is bad it could take you hours to get to the beach, depending where in Malaga you are!. Having driven through the centre of Barcelona, you may encounter the same problem!!
Barcelona is a huge city, very spread out, lots lots LOTS to see! (we spent ten days there...only one on the beach, so if beach is your priority, you're going to have to fight the urge to get up and explore).
There is art, architecture, food, (non-alcoholic) clubbing/music, museums, etc. GALORE! Day trips to smaller cities for their historic interest. etc.
Málaga is significantly smaller...less to distract you, though there are many other cities of interest in the area as well.
Barcelona isn't true Spain...it's Catalu?a. Their allegiances, culture, language, all different.
Málaga is Andalucía..."true" Spain, flamenco, bullfighting, white houses with balconies overflowing with flowers, etc. This is what most people think of as Spain.
Every region, in fact, every CITY in Spain has a different flavor, but given the two, you want to use those criteria to base your decision on.
Hi!
Definitely Barcelona because more great things to do there than in Malaga.
Malaga is more for partiying and much more crazy stuff.
Hope this helped! ;)
Definitly BArcelona!!! BArcelona is much much better, there are better restaurants and a lot of fun attractions. Barcelona is beautiful, the streets are clean, the restaurants are great, great place for biking, fishing, walking and there are a lot of fun things to do!!!
I have been living in Spain for 24 years, and in 2 weeks 25 years!!! Trust me i have been i both places and Barcelona is the best by far!! :D
Have fun
BARCA!
