I think it will be pretty chilly to go to the beach during the winter. I mean it is true that Spain is a hot country, and it is definitely one of the warmest countries during the winter (along with Portugal and Greece) in Europe but it is definitely not warm enough to go swimming. I mean ... Its winter. Anyways, winter or summer Spain is always a top tourists destination. It is amazing place. There are so many things you can do there during Christmas. Barcelona is my fav city there. But Zaragoza is also nice. There is probably more to do for a 5 year old in Barcelona.

Why do you want to go to the beach in wintertime? It's WINTER! It will be COLD!
Sounds like you want a summer resort, when everything is nasty weather, and/or closed.
I would go to Sevilla. It's not on the shoreline, but it's close, and it will be too cold in winter for swimming anyway.
