Yes it is but it takes some work and will cost you more money. First there are two types of banks in Spain: international and local banks. International banks include such names as HSBC, Barclays, Duetsche, and Citibank etc. With these banks you can open a local account using your foreign account with them as reference. If you choose a local bank you will need some stuff. You will need what is called an NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjeros). This is basically a tax number and while you may not have to pay taxes locally it will result in paying higher fees in your bank (monthly charges, wire transfers, exchange rate charges etc.) These fees can be quite high for a visitor.
So to answer your question, yes it is possible but is it practical – that is your call. You are staying for 2 months so it is highly unlikely you really need a bank account. If you are concerned about keeping money (and do not have a debit card at home or credit card) then get a cash card. It is like a prepaid credit card and will work just as well for rentals, food etc. The fees and costs it will cost you to get an account for this time is limited, but I know that is not what you asked.
You only need a Spanish bank account if you move there permanently, or are studying or working for some years.
All you need is a credit card for major costs such as hotel bills, and a Visa or MasterCard debit card to withdraw cash from ATMs. Just make sure you let your bank know where and when you're travelling so they don't put a security stop on the account due to unusual activity.
Yes.
By rights you should need to produce an NIE number and in some cases a proof of address, but I have know some Banks open non-resident bank accounts with little more than a passport.

See your own bank and ask them to open a Euro currency account. This will give you a debit card and you wont be charged for transactions. You wont be able to open an account in Spain unless you are permanently resident there.
I wouldn't think it would be a good idea for only 2 months.
How much Spanish do you think you're going to learn in 2 months???
c'set?
So I'm going to barcelona for 2months in the summer, i will be staying in a hostel, just wondering would it be possible to open a spanish bank account, I'm not studying or working, I'm just staying a while to learn spanish and to see such a nice city.
