Forget Alton Towers - it's nearer Birmingham than London and would take 4 and a half hours to get there by public transport including 2 trains and 2 buses. You might enjoy Legoland in Windsor which you can get to by taking a train to Windsor and getting the bus there. As you are in London and not Birmingham, why not focus on what London itself has? Visit the Tower of London, take a boat trip to Greenwich, go on the London Eye, visit the Sealife Aquarium, take a London open top bus tour. Go window shopping in Harrods, stroll down Portobello Road Market, visit the Observatory at Greenwich, take in a West End show, go for a meal in Chinatown, see the lights at Piccadilly Circus, see the street performers in Covent Garden, see the animals in London zoo, explore the Camden markets. If you want a day trip somewhere, take the train to Brighton to see the piers and seaside or get on the Eurostar and spend an afternoon in Paris.
Alton Towers is miles away from London. If you want to visit a theme park, Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park are both accessible from London.
Other than that - what are your interests? Do you want to see standard tourist things, such as Madame Tussaud's? Do you want to go shopping? (Try Oxford Street, Carnaby Street, Camden Market, Spitalfields)
Do you want to see museums or galleries? (Try the V&A, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Tate Modern - all free)
Just to correct facts. It takes one train and one bus to get to Alton Towers from London but it is a long and expensive journey taking 2 hours 30 minutes. Thorpe Park is a similar theme park very close to London. Go to Waterloo Station and catch a Windsor or Reading train to Staines Station - takes 35 minutes and then the connecting number 950 bus from outside the station to Thorpe Park. www.thorpepark.com
im 14 and live in london. its a really great place to visit but there i a lot to take in. i would definitely try bubbleology drink (google it!). there are shops all around londond and it is really popular. i would probably say that Thorpe Park is better than Alton Towers although i think it is a little further out of london. for shopping, head to the Kings road in chelsea, or High street Kensington. have fun!
Alton Towers is about 150 miles from London - did you mean Tower Bridge?
Try sorting out a bit of basic geography first and then work out what you want to see and where you want to go
Museums and art galleries are free. There are good parks for eating your own lunch. Kensington tube will bring you to several museums. The Natural History museum is fascinating. Tussaud's is expensive, also the Tower of London
The zoo, Madame Tussaud's (3D show and ride- very cool) Sherlock Holmes house (very near Madame Tussaud's), Harry Potter Museum and Studio Tour, the London Eye (buy tickets in advance to avoid long lines).
