Travelling to amsterdam?

Next April I turn 20, me and my friend were going to go to Amsterdam for a long weekend. I know the Anne frank house is there and besides the obvious "red light district" but are there any good things you recommend doing whilst out there?

There is no need to do anything in Amsterdam, but there are a lot of options.

There are many museums. Only go to those you really want, Anne Franks house is a must if you have read the book and want to go there, for those who have not read the book it is not the same.

http://amsterdam.info/museums/ has a lot of the main museums in Amsterdam, you have to click on the sorted or unsorted headers to find the actual museums, as there are so many.

This is one of my personal favorites: http://amsterdam.info/museums/museum_lor...

I think the canals are a must, and the canals in the ring more so than the older canals in and near the RLD.

You can do a canal tour by boat, by bike, but walking your own speed is best, maybe combined with some shopping in the 9 streets is good as well.

There are 'weekly' market in several parts of Amsterdam, there are also some that are 6 days a week.

That same site I mentioned above has all information you need about Amsterdam, just roam around.

Just have fun in the Red Light District and forget about landmarks - there aren't any. Enjoy the atmosphere and have fun. BTW the Zushi bar is great. Clothes are cheap. Lots of bars, magic mushrooms, weed. Buy yourself a canal cruise. See the street artists perform. Smile at people. Enjoy the fresh air.

I would ignore anyone who tells you weed is legal in NL - it isn't, just tolerated, and you can only buy a small amount for personal use in coffeeshops, and you need to be careful where you smoke it too, as smoking (anything) is now prohibited in many bars and cafés in NL - and buy yourself a good, up-to-date, travel guide book for Amsterdam which will include all kinds of interesting places in addition to the Red Light District and the coffeeshops.

There are al lot of things to do in Amsterdam, but it al depends on your budget and personal interest. The site of the tourist information can give you a lot of idea's.

If you are planning to visit the Anne Frank house its a good idea to buy a ticket in advance to avoid a long queue. The site gives you also a lot of background information that might interest you.

Go to a coffee shop and smoke weed, it's legal out there.
