As an African American I found behavior suspect on many occasions in Barcelona. Racist? I can't be definitive, but if I was treated the same way in the US by a white person,I would think yes. I have traveled a lot in Germany and across the board the was treated better. Ironic.
An example is in the Hotel restaurant one evening. The first two dishes we order were out. OK. A white couple sat down next to us. Within 15 minutes they received the very same dish. Hmmm. I asked to speak to the manager. Before i could complete my civil inquiry, he became indignent - inexplicably.
When we arrived from an evening drive, the valet told us to park the car ourselves.
...there were other similar issues.
This was an expensive 5 star hotel.
Another black couple from Chicago said they had issues as well. I did not ask for details, so it is hear say.
I've never been carded at any clubs in Spain. Make sure that you dress well. I've seen a lot of Americans denied entry to clubs because they dress shabbily (mostly in Madrid). I find the spanish people to be very accepting and pleasant people. Obviously, there are problems with racism in any country, but I have not noticed that it has been a problem for tourists. I'm sure you will have a great time. It is an amazing country. Enjoy! P.S.- It will be REALLY hot in July.
They CHECK ID.
If you aren't 18, you are breaking the law trying to get into clubs that require you to be 18.
Hi i am a 17 year old boy and visiting spain in july with my brother ... I am concerned that whether the night clubs will allow me in ... I look not that old but more like 18 ...I am 5'9 ... And would i need any ID ?
