I teach English, and at one time I had three jobs this year, I was teaching with multiple schools at the same time. I am still employed and working here this summer.
All you need to be is a Native English Speaker, TESOL certification, and have an advanced degree. The last two you can lie about and say you have, they never check... I have both and they never ask for copies of my certs. or transcripts... Even if they do ask when I get to the interview they forget to look... Just learn everything you can about TESOL or CELTA and write it on your CV that you went to a school that issued TESOL or CELTA certs...
You will need at least 600 euros to get here and live for a month. Maybe more if you have to stay in hotels until you can find a room for rent. Go on Ryan Air, and get a room, there are lots of people looking for flat mates.
If I was you I would get here just before September and look like hell for a job and a room, you will find one, but a lot of schools have already started or finished hiring for next fall.
In the end of the day you will earn about 1400+ euros, and take home about 1200+ euros... taxes are very low here (compared to the US).
They still get a winter time in Spain and they also have yobs etc. I looked into it but unemployment in Spain is worse than UK and you cant just go for the weather unless you have enough money to support yourself because there is no chance of getting a basic job. On a recent visit to Spain I noticed there is a high number of moroccan and asian/african immigrants that have taken over the jobs in pubs/cafes and shops, Good Luck
No jobs anywhere in Spain. Wouldn't bother.
Go for a vacation.
Places you go for vacation always seem better than home, BECAUSE YOU'RE ON VACATION. As soon as you ago to live there, all the same problems arise.
I did it. I got a job before I went. But that was a few years ago. (I have a working knowledge of Spanish.)
Good Luck!
Concentrate on getting the job first of all - whilst you are still in the UK - everything else is easy.
I can tell already you don't speak Spanish, therefore you have no chance of getting a job.
Hi,
Old blighty and her weather/social antics with yobs etc has simply gotten too much and I want to move to the south of Spain and work for a year or so.
Has anyone here done that? and how did you go about it?
Thanks.
