I need to know if the following countries are/were ruled by a monarchy

-spain-ireland-england-russia-kingdom of naples- italian states- poland- scottland- france- bradenburg- swiss confederation- sweden- austria- denmark/norway- portugal- spanish netherlands - united netherlands- hungray

Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg, Monaco, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Holland, England, Scotland, Wales, Lichtenstein

Toni Parr is right, all of the countries of Europe have been monarchies (or part of a larger kingdom) at some point in history.

As for today :

- Kingdom of Spain : unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy

- Republic of Ireland : unitary parliamentary constitutional republic

- UK (Northern Ireland+England+Dcotland+Wales+Cornwall) : parliamentary constitutional monarchy

- Russian Federation : Federal semi-presidential constitutional republic

-Italian Republic (including Naples which is a city) : Unitary parliamentary constitutional republic

- Republic of Poland : Parliamentary republic

- French Republic : Unitary semi-presidential constitutional republic

- Brandenburg : one of the federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany which is a federal parliamentary constitutional republic

- Swiss confederation : Federal multi-party directorial republic with elements of direct democracy

- Kingdom of Sweden : Unitary parliamentary

constitutional monarchy

- Republic of Austria : Federal parliamentary republic

- Kingdom of Denmark : Unitary parliamentary

constitutional monarchy

- Kingdom of Norway : Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy

- Portuguese Republic : Unitary semi-presidential

- Kingdom of the Netherlands : Unitary parliamentary democracy under constitutional monarchy

- Hungary : Parliamentary republic

You also asked for governments which don't exist anymore :

- Spanish netherlands : ended in 1714 and was a governorate

- Republic of the United Netherlands : ended in 1795 and was a federal republic

- Kingdom of Naples : ended in 1816 and was a monarchy

I believe the only one left is Monaco which has been ruled by the Grimaldis for hundreds of years. Although a city-state with a traditional government, the Prince heavily influences politics and has untethered rule over much of the policy.

The Swiss Confederation is probably the only area of those listed which has never been ruled by a monarchy.

Check out wikipedia for a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchies_...

The one country that would be hard to categorize is Gibraltar, a UK territory in Europe that has its own government. You can read more about it here if you want: http://thecollegegirlsguidetostudyabroad...

There is -NO- monarchy anymore, there is however, a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Google it.

All of them at one time or another.

For hundreds of years it was the normal form of Government
