What are British pounds worth today?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
Im an american and visited the UK about 15 years ago. I have about 35 British pounds...coins, that I brought back from my trip. I know that currency has changed and the Euro is now used. Are these worth anything now?

Like the others said, Euros would not be accepted as currency except maybe in some prestige type shops in London. You can get a lot of groceries from the big supermarkets for that sort of money if you want to holiday cheaply. Not in London though, which seems to be running a separate economy. For example, a pint of beer which might cost a little over £2 in a town in the North of England or Wales, could cost twice that in London.

Do keep up! We decided not to join the euro and still use pounds. They are worth just as much now, though banks do not exchange coins, so either visit again or sell them to someone else visiting the UK.

Unfortunately you've been misinformed, the UK still uses the same currency it did 15 years ago, Sterling. The pound coin has not changed in that time but will in 2017,but even then the older coins are likely to remain legal tender for some time after that.

Pounds & Pence are still the main currency of the UK... according to XE.com at time of typing this answer 35GBP = $53.69

Euro is only used on the other side of the English Channel (France / Germany / Spain, etc) + the Republic of Ireland.

About $56.

Here in England the currency is the English Pound - therefore your English One Pound coins are valued at exactly one English pound. To find out their value in US Dollars - click on the link below.

One English Pound = $1.52 approx

You can find out more about your English money at the Bank of England link below,

The currency of England is the English Pound - we are not in the Euro-Zone.

When you visit us again, bring your English money, it is worth a lot more than you think.

You will not be able to exchange coins, only notes total today if you exchanged £35 in notes would be $53.1545

The UK do not use Euro's

"I know that currency has changed and the Euro is now used"

The Euro is not used in Britain. Banks won't change coins. Give them to someone that's going to the UK.

The UK still uses Pound Sterling and you can use those coins for your next visit to the UK. However in the U.S. only foreign banknotes can be exchanged and there is nothing you can do except to sell them to somebody who plans to visit the UK.

The UK doesn't use the euro they still use the pound sterling so yes they can still be exchanged. In fact the UK is one of the 9 European countries who don't use the euro. If you want to exchange them back in US dollars you will get $53.15
