What does it take to backpack across Europe?

If I cashed my last cheque and got on the next plane to France what would I really need to spend the next year travelling around? I'm old enough, I don't have any responsibilities that can't be dissolved easily enough. I'm just not sure.

I've been homeless before and it ******* sucks in Canada because it's so damn cold

A criteria for entering the Schengen Zone - that's most of Europe, is that you have enough money to support yourself comfortably without working, and that you have onward or return travel tickets. In addition, you are only allowed to stay in the Schengen Zone for 90 days out of every 180 days so, if you want to stay for a year, you need to be prepared to move across borders regularly and that means money for transport.

And just how will you support yourself for a year? It is illegal for you to work and cash in hand work is not available. Not only are there high penalties for employers hiring illegal workers, they do.not need to do this as there are plenty of European citizens looking for work.

You cannot sleep rough as the local homeless will not accept you, and the authorities will pick you up and deport you anyway. Homeless shelters will not accept you, you will have no money for food, transport or accommodation - what a great life!

There's hundreds of blogs and other kinds of sites with tips and stories about backpacking in Europe. Google around a bit.

You can not work and can not stay more than 90 days in Schengen zone. You need about 100 Canadian dollars per day in Europe.

Can you play a musical instrument? Bring it with you. You can get cash by busking in tourist places whenever you run out of money.

Well after 90 days you become an illegal that will be arrested and

deported.
