What is The London Assembly?

I realise this is a stupid question, but I have done quick and basic research and have no idea what it is.

Is it like a small weird House of Commons for London and Greater London?

London Assembly

The London Assembly is an elected watchdog for the capital made up of 25 Assembly Members. Our role is to examine how effective the Mayor’s policies, decisions and activities are. We champion London, investigating issues that affect everyday life in the capital to find ways of improving our city for everyone who lives here. We ensure the Mayor is held publicly accountable every day, not just at election time.

Sort of. Its basic function is to keep an eye on the Mayor of London. Given who that currently is, getting answers out of him can be a bit difficult.

The Mayor has the responsibility to run within London the things he has responsibility for, mainly public transport, police, the fire brigade and overall planning, and the Greater London Authority (which is the proper name for it) exists to question him rather than having any power itself (which it doesn't).

Yes you could say that. The assembly members are elected locally all over London every 4 years as is its leader, the Mayor of London who is currently Boris Johnson

That is the elected group that keeps an eye on the GLA,

Greater London Authority, with powers over transport (TfL),

policing, (Met police),

fire and emergency planning (LFB)

planning and economic development,

It is the name given to the paedophiles who assemble at Westminster!

Local govt. assembly of course....
